Wheelbarrows, cabbages and potatoes have been stolen from the site in Gardner's Lane over the past few weeks, but now a double lock has been put on the metal gate to deter criminals, the Gloucestershire Echo reports.
"We think there are people out there who have keys and they are using them to get in at night," site warden Kathy Shaw told the newspaper.
"It looks like they are taking wheelbarrows and filling them up with people's produce, then just walking out."
Police have advised allotment-holders to report any thefts, large or small, to them so they can form a picture of the pattern of crime in the area.
Recently, the Richmond Guardian reported that allotment tenders in the town were angered by a council decision to lock a gate providing access from a neighbouring cemetery.
