A car park on the site of the former Nantwich gas works is set to be closed to the public so investigatory work can be undertaken.

High security fencing will be placed around the perimeter from 06:00 GMT on April 13th, but it will be closed to the public from 22:00 GMT the previous evening. The site will be reopened on April 27th at 18:00 GMT.

According to the Nantwich News, the fencing is designed to restrict access to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists whilst the work is taking place. The land is used by residents for access to St Anne's Lane but is now being assessed by the council.

Nantwich Mayor and ward councillor Arthur Moran said: "This brownfield land is one of the last prime development sites in the town centre. We will be looking to create a good-quality, mixed development that will enhance the waterfront area of the River Weaver."
