Aberdeen FC's hopes of relocating to a new stadium have been reignited after the club announced that a number of companies had expressed interest in the venture.
The Scottish Premier League (SPL) club have been desperately seeking a move away from their current Pittodrie ground, at which they have been playing their home matches since 1903. However, plans for a new stadium have suffered a number of setbacks in the past, dampening enthusiasm for the club to find a new home and boost their stature within the Scottish football spectrum. Now, they have been given a glimmer of hope as a number of firms have lodged their interest in constructing the stadium.
Officials stated that while they had been contacted over a proposed stadium they were still very much in the first phase of planning and nothing has been set in concrete as of yet. Aberdeen had recently been denied by the council to build a leisure facility in Cove which would incorporate a new ground, training facilities as well as home for lower league side Cove Rangers.
However, the club is now confident that they can reach a deal that will see the construction of a purpose built 21,000-seater stadium, which they want to move in to by the 2014/15 season, and provide a major boost to the team and the area.
George Yule, the Dons' vice chairman said. "Although I can confirm that the club has received several expressions of interest for potential / alternative stadium sites, we are still at a very early stage of carrying out a full review of these options.
"There is a considerable amount of preliminary diligence to be undertaken before we decide on the best-suited outcome for AFC. We will take whatever time is required to complete this review in the very best interests of AFC and its supporters."
Aberdeen currently lie eighth in the SPL after only collecting eight from their opening seven games but managed to come back from two goals down to earn a 3-3 draw with Motherwell at the weekend (September 23rd).
