A new state-of-the-art play area has been opened at a primary school in Bolton, Lancashire.

Pupils at the SS Simon and Jude CE Primary School, in Great Lever, will be able to enjoy the £120,000 multi-use facility when it is completed in time for the new school term.

Children will be able to play everything from basketball to football to cricket on the Astroturf pitches and with the Olympics fast-approaching the promotion of sport in schools has never been more important.

The facility will also have a tiered seating section where 60 children can be housed to cheer on their classmates during inter-school matches. The multi-use games area will also be open to the community until 21:00 BST on weekdays.

Headteacher Simon Bramwell told the Bolton News: "We are very pleased that the council has given the go-ahead for the next phase of the development of SS Simon and Jude. There are very few examples in life of a true win-win but this is one of them."
