The government's announcement that it is scrapping house building proposals for new-build projects, that may have included security fencing, is good news for the construction industry, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has said.
Last week (November 25th), housing minister Grant Shapps announced that proposals that could have meant developers would have to spend thousands of pounds in extra cash for new-builds will be scrapped.
The new set of building standards could have led to developers paying an additional £8,000 for homes built with government funding or on public sector land.
"Anything that streamlines the current planning system and building standards is obviously very good news for the building industry. It is good that the government has recognised the burden it has placed on developments," Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the FMB, said.
Berry added, though, that the government's decision to introduce the community infrastructure levy went against the grain of claims that the planning system is being streamlined.
"That proviso is important because it is doing good with one hand and then taking back with the other," he said.
