Work has begun on the installation of play area fencing and other playground equipment in Newtownabbey.
A group that included children, parents and community group representatives and the Mayor Alderman Billy Webb, were on hand to celebrate the beginning of construction work with a sod-cutting ceremony.
The £200,000 project got the go-ahead after a 1,000-strong postal survey found that three-quarters of the local residents supported the new play area, reports newtownabbeytoday.co.uk.
Mayor Webb told the news provider that there will be plenty for local families to do at the new site.
"This new play area is going to be a great facility for Ballyclare and the surrounding area," he explained.
"It will be a similar size to the very popular play park at Jordanstown Loughshore Park and will include a range of play equipment to suit all age groups and abilities."
Sandbach Park in Crewe will also see new play area fencing in the coming months after a £38,000 investment from the local council.
