A Norfolk town has secured just under £33,000 funding from Sport England to revamp aging tennis courts in its area.
North Walsham Town Council along with Griffon Area Partnership managed to land the grant from the national organisation and now aims to update the tennis court fencing, surface and gate system.
The two courts in the North Walsham War Memorial Park are over 50 years-old but are not recognised by the Lawn Tennis Association. With Wimbledon fast-approaching there is expected to be the annual surge in people playing the sport over the summer months.
It is part of Sport England's 'Places People Play' project, which is a £135 million scheme designed to leave a lasting Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy.
Vivienne Uprichard, town mayor, said: "We are delighted to secure the first Inspired Facilities grant, which will enable us to upgrade the quality of our premises to encourage more people to take up tennis."
