The use of parking barriers at a Wakefield car park could be reviewed in a bid to raise money for the local council.
Pugneys Country Park currently sees charges of 50p for every hour after allowing drivers to park for free for the first 60 minutes.
However, Wakefield Council could look at scrapping free parking for the first hour if measures are approved later today (July 26th), reports the Wakefield Express.
Councillor Denise Jeffery, responsible for regeneration and economic growth, told the news provider that issues with the current parking scheme need addressing.
"We know many people enjoy using Pugneys regularly to exercise, walk their dogs and socialise with friends, with some visiting every day," he explained.
"We hope these proposed charges now reflect how people use the park, as well as being a fair charging system which contributes to the council's very difficult financial situation."
Elsewhere, residents in Oxford are calling for the local council to reinstate parking barriers after car parking was removed for a new cycle lane.
