A lack of play area fencing is leaving parents concerned about the safety of their children in Coventry, despite a recent revamp of the playground.

The War Memorial Park refurbishment, which cost £2.8 million, is now complete but has left the play area without any fencing.

Locals are worried that dogs are able to run through the park without being stopped, while sand is scattered around the outside, reports the Coventry Telegraph.

Richard Harrison, a resident of Earlsdron, told the news provider that anything could be hidden under the sand.

He explained: "The sand could cover up rubbish, cigarette ends, dog poo or broken glass.

"The council says there will be someone there every day to check the sand and clean it but the bigger issue for me is the lack of fencing."

A similar problem has been raised in Burton after dog mess was left near a play area in the town.
