Artists are being encouraged to come forward with designs for a new fence and security gates at Barton's Ropewalk.
Staff at the art gallery are planning to replace the old wooden gate with a newer more secure model. The centre is looking to commission the barrier out to any artists that can make it into an iconic figure and will provide £9,000 to complete the work.
Whilst the Grimsby Telegraph recently reported that the nearby football team was going to honour two late fans by naming its iconic Pontoon gate after them, Ropewalk will display the artist work at the end of the promenade near to the centre.
Liz Bennett, Ropewalk's managing director, said: "Whoever is selected must be available to commence work immediately after selection. The choice of materials is not prescriptive but particular attention should be given to safety and maintenance considerations as well as accessibility and resistance to vandalism."
