A primary school has put up metal barriers to stop dog owners allowing their pets to foul a playing field.
Pupils at Cirencester Primary have been unable to use the popular field for some time due to excessive dog fouling, the Wilts and Gloucestershire standard reports.
Headteacher Graham Norton said he was concerned for pupils' safety and feared that Ofsted would not look favourably on the condition of the field.
Town councillor Shirley Alexander said the dog mess was a big problem and was hampering sports and outdoor classes.
"When we'd do PE in the field there were dogs off their leads and dog mess because people don't pick up," Mr Horton told the newspaper.
"We're closing less than half the field to keep that secure for our children. The community would have the other half."
Recently, a school in Somerset also erected metal railing to keep visitors and pupils safe.
