Northampton now has security bollards installed following improvement works in Market Street, allowing Hackney taxis and buses access during peak daytime hours.
The only criticism for the project followed Wellingborough Council's plan to charge the 63 registered taxi drivers £25 each for fobs that allow them access, reports northantset.co.uk.
Wellingborough Hackney Carriage Association argues that while the buses are getting theirs for free, taxi drivers are being unfairly charged.
However, councillor Graham Lawman told the news provider that the deposit is essential to ensure fobs are not given to the wrong person.
"The buses will have their fobs physically attached to the vehicle. The taxi drivers will be given fobs and in order to protect the security of the system, we have introduced a deposit to ensure they are not passed on to the wrong person," he added.
Meanwhile, Burton could require new security bollards after a bus crash flattened a pillar in the town's high street.
