Concerns about safety at the North Road Bridge, which runs over the A80 and connects Condorrat with Westfield, Croy and Kilsyth, have been raised by councillors and MSP Cathie Craigie after listening to residents' worries, the Cumbernauld News reports.
They are particularly concerned about what they feel is inadequate security fencing given the bridge is well-used by local school pupils.
Talking to the newspaper, Ms Craigie said she had "deep concerns" about the size of the fencing.
"It should be higher," she said. "Pupils getting to and from St Maurice's High School are crossing a bridge with a 1.2 metre fence separating them from a busy motorway below."
She added that she had contacted Transport Scotland to see if the issue can be resolved.
Recently, it was reported that two animal welfare organisations in Canada were concerned that visitors to some of the country's zoos were at risk of attack from animals because security fencing is too low.
