Users of a playground in a Hertfordshire town will be better-protected when its security fencing is reinstated.
An independent risk assessment ruled that the play area fencing around the King George V playground, in Hitchin, was unnecessary and should be removed, thecomet.net reports.
But a campaign to restore the fencing, which will protect children from unruly dogs, has proved successful.
Hitchin area committee applied to North Herts District Council's Cabinet to put the protection back in, which was approved as long as the area committee funded the project.
"It's really good news," councillor Judi Billing told the newspaper.
"Lots of people that we have spoken to have been really supportive, including dog owners. They've said that it's the right thing to do."
Parents of children who go to schools near the play area have also welcomed the news.
Deborah Segalini, chair of Strathmore Pre-school, told the newspaper: "I hope the council will be quick in putting the fencing up, so that our children can make the most of the improving weather and enjoy the facilities without us parents worrying about dog excrement."
This month, metal gates went up at playing fields in Derby to prevent dangerous motorists gaining access to the site.
