Orders for security fencing are sure to have contributed to increased activity in the construction industry, as new figures show the sector is leading the way in new employment growth.

The latest Report on Jobs, published by KPMG and the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), shows that in February, permanent jobs across the private sector increased at their fastest rate in ten months, and growth in temporary positions was the highest recorded since May 2007.

What's more, within the construction industry there was a rapid rise in both permanent and temporary jobs.

REC Construction welcomed the figures and called for action to ensure that the current jobs boom is long-lasting.

Simon Noakes, chair of REC Construction said: "The construction industry is regaining its confidence as new orders keep coming in.

"It is very encouraging to see figures confirming what we are experiencing on the ground."

However, he warned that the figures are an "initial boost" following on from two very bad years. Now that there is light at the end of the tunnel, it is the right time to encourage long-term growth and sustainability, Mr Noakes said.
