The proposed removal of security fencing in Highams Park, London has raised concerns among residents, who believe their privacy and safety may be at risk.

People on Selwyn Avenue has been told that a 10ft fence may be replaced with a 6ft timber wall as part of plans to build a new Tesco nearby, the Waltham Forest Guardian reports.

The development has already prompted the removal of tall trees at the bottom of their gardens, and residents worry the new fence will not be high enough to deter thieves.

"We are concerned that our new neighbours will be able to see directly into our homes and some are even scared it could put homes at risk of being burgled," local man Jude Leighton told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the East Anglian Daily Times reports a happier state of affairs in which security fencing at a Bury St Edmunds farm has been nominated for a beauty award.
