Emergency services in Carlisle have issued a warning to arsonists on one of the town's estates after security fencing was set alight.

Police officers say that people could be hurt if people continue to damage fencing in the area following minor damage to the Morton estate last week.

The News and Star reports that there have been three fires in recent weeks, with security fencing set alight on Winscale Way, with youngsters thought to be behind the problems.

A police spokesman told the news provider that serious problems could be left without attention because of these fires.

"These deliberate and malicious actions are diverting the resources of the fire and rescue service who have to attend and extinguish the fires," he said.

"They also cause considerable anxiety and anger to the people who suffer the damage, many of whom are elderly."

Elsewhere, bollards were destroyed in Worcester last week after vandalism, causing £2,000 worth of damage.
