According to the Sentinel, thieves stole a section of perimeter fencing from Birches Head High School in Staffordshire before the bank holiday weekend.
The thieves, who used bolt cutters, are believed to have stolen the fencing for its metal value.
Kath Thompson, Birches Head's business manager, told the newspaper the theft left the school's pupils vulnerable.
"Things have happened before but nothing as blatant as this. It must have taken such a long time," she said.
"It leaves me feeling sick and quite sad. It also leaves the children vulnerable."
Recently, pupils at a school in Wales successfully lobbied their council for the introduction of security fencing to be installed around a 20ft drop on their route to school.
The children, from Cwmbach Junior school, were working on a school project to highlight local hazards when they spotted the potentially dangerous drop, Wales Online reports.
