Security fencing is set to be installed at the perimeter of Belfast properties to protect them from whizzing golf balls from a local club, it has been reported.
According to the Newtownabbey Times, houses in the Rogan Wood area of the city could be set to benefit when security fencing is deployed to block balls from the nearby City of Belfast Golf Club. Some residents have reported damage as a result of the balls.
The security fencing proposal was first floated in July, the newspaper reported, but was refused by city planners.
However, since then a local councillor, Nigel Hamilton, has been working with the golf club and planners to get the fencing the green light to rollout.
A council planning committee meeting will be held on November 1st to discuss the plans.
"I am delighted with this result. Residents will feel safer at the rear of their properties following months of smashed windows and balls bouncing off their properties," Mr Hamilton told the newspaper.
In August a man in Bristol was plagued by golf balls after his security fencing in his garden blew down. ThisisBristol.co.uk reported that Paul Groves had amassed 60 balls in his back garden over the course of six weeks.
