Shepherd Construction Ltd has been named as the winning candidate to take on the job of rebuilding a school in Shropshire.

The company was selected by Telford & Wrekin Council to carry out the job which will see a complete overhaul of Ercall Wood Technology College in Wellington after outline planning of the development was granted in June 2012. It is part of the local authority's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) campaign which has seen a number of education centres constructed across the region. The Ercall Wood development is just the latest within this scheme.

Designs have already been approved and will be available for the public to view at the school on July 18th from 16:00 BST to 18:30 BST at a drop-in event being held by the institute. The company's plans include a 900-space new state-of-the-art secondary, which will also encompass the demolition of the current facility which will be torn once the new building is complete.

The replacement will be designed to encourage links between the school and the local community, promoting the integration of sports, with facilities within this subject set to be dramatically improved. Officials also expressed their desire to reduce local traffic congestion on Golf Links Lane as well as other roads.

Peter Bates, programme director at Shepherd Construction, said: "This is great news for Shepherd and we look forward to working in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council to deliver high quality educational and community facilities for the benefit of local people in Telford and Wrekin.

"We look forward to supporting the local community as much as possible and will be working closely with residents to minimise any disruption as construction progresses."

Shepherd Construction takes over the development from Kier Moss and it means that the company will be allowed to have first refusal on the design and building conditions on five new schools and three remodelled centres in phase two of the programme over the coming years, which will be announced in due course.
