Vandals that attacked a play area in Sidemoor, Worcestershire, have been condemned by two local councils.

The yobs breached the play area fencing and attacked the valuable local green space damaging equipment, setting fire to a basket swing and harming the protective lighting used for children's safety.

Many authorities have taken steps to stop this problem by erecting security fencing and lockable gates to ward off potential troublemakers looking to cause havoc in valuable play spaces.

Councillors Chris Bloore and Eddie Murray, of Bromsgrove District Council, have said that members are now taking steps to replace the damaged equipment, including the swing, as soon as possible and vindicated the actions of the vandals.

Mr Bloore told the Bromsgrove Standard: "It is hugely disappointing for local families and the community in general that this damage has been done. Like them I am angry that this appalling vandalism means children will not be able to use the swing."
