A dedicated area for playing table tennis is sought after by many players of the sport in Huddersfield, which may include the use of sports netting.

At present, 34 teams within the Huddersfield League are playing out of 12 different locations spread across a wide area.

In many cases, the teams are unable to play at some venues - such as school sports halls - because of rising costs and the introduction of commercial rates, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

This situation has mainly affected teams that contain a mixture of schoolchildren and adults who are simply unable to afford the charges.

It was recently revealed that Telford ice rink has proposed an extensive redevelopment, which would include the installation of crash barriers and a range of other features.

The recommendations have to be approved by Telford and Wrekin Council and would cost around £4 million to put into place.
