Temporary security fencing will be installed to separate protestors from the English Defence League (EDL) and counter demonstrators when the far-right organisation comes to Preston.
According to the Lancashire Evening Post, the city's police force is readying itself for the arrival of 1,200 people on Saturday November 27th.
The security fencing will be used to separate the EDL from Unite Against Fascism and the Trades Union Council.
Police officers have had days off cancelled, public order officers will be drafted in and mounted and road police will be involved, the newspaper said.
Chief Superintendent Tim Jacques was quoted by the newspaper as saying: "Our number one priority is keeping people in the city safe and to minimise disruption on a busy Saturday before Christmas."
"It will be one of the biggest operations seen in Preston in terms of planning but on terms of what we are dealing with it is smaller - in the past we have dealt with 6,000 Premier League fans coming into the city," he was also quoted as saying.
The EDL says it is opposed to Islamic extremism in Britain.
