Children in Up Hatherley, Gloucestershire, are getting ready for a fun play area after Cheltenham Borough Council approved plans.

The security fencing is set to go up later this year as part of a £15,000 scheme to build an activity centre at the Brizen recreational field. The plan will include the installation of many fun facilities such as play equipment, wooden climbers and a number of slides.

It was brought to the attention of Cheltenham's authority by local childminder Alison Hitchens, who worked with councillor Alice Regan to bring the plans to fruition. She realised that there was nothing for small children to do so urged the council to consider plans.

Mrs Regan told the Gloucestershire Echo: "It will be great for the children to have their very own safe area of the sports field with modern equipment."

There is no word on when the play area will be ready but it is hoped that there will be some form of opening event similar to the one's in Stanway, where the council promised a "grand" ceremony.ADNFCR-3337-ID-801287548-ADNFCR
