Vandals in Leicester have damaged a fairground car ride after breaking through the security fencing protecting the attraction.

Four men were spotted on CCTV at 4.15am on Wednesday (January 4th) removing the car from the children's ride.

The total damage cost £3,500 with the vehicle sustaining a cracked front bumper, broken fibreglass, scratched paintwork and damage to the mechanism fastening it to the ride.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Operator Kennedy Bates, of Billy Bates and Sons Funfairs, told the Leicester Mercury: "The car is part of a kiddie car convoy ride. We had to carry out a few health and safety checks because it was ripped from the ride. We were able to operate without it, but its back on now."

Vandals also struck in Wishaw, damaging a perimeter fence in a park which severely injured a dog after it jumped through a hole in the barrier. The dog was left crippled and the pet's owners were said to be "heartbroken".
