Children in a south Wales primary school are raising funds for a new play area after the old one was taken down.
Pupils at Oystermouth Primary School, which is situated in the Swansea area, were dismayed when the security fencing was put up to signal the removal of the structure, which had stood in the school grounds since 1996.
The decision was made following a visit from inspectors, but now children want the play area reinstalled. The school has been holding a number of fundraising events to generate the required money including £2,000 from a grand prix day.
Head teacher Eifion Wynne told the South Wales Evening Post: "The play area was very popular and we are looking to raise between £5,000 and £6,000 to replace what was there. It was a lovely day. The pupils brought in bicycles and scooters and went round the track, cheered on by the juniors."
