Work on a new play area in Winshill, Staffordshire, is set to begin this week after the local council finished a six-month consultation process with local residents.

East Staffordshire Borough authority asked people what they would like to see at the town's Newton Road Park and told them to compile a "wish list" of improvements for the site. Residents could ask for anything they thought would benefit the park whether it be better security fencing, new swings or a bigger slide.

Top of the list was a new facility for toddlers and young children located near to the car park. Whilst many play areas are brought about through campaigns such as the new facility being built in Coventry's Gosford Park, members of Winshill's authority have listened to the views of the public and taken action.

Councillor Julia Jessel, deputy leader for built environment, said: "Once again this council has listened to its community and taken steps to enhance one of neighbourhoods as part of its ongoing commitment to increasing the quality of play spaces in the borough."
