Manchester City FC have announced that their landmark training and development complex is set to be constructed in the coming weeks.

The Premier League champions stated at a signing event that the new centre will be able to allow the club to compete with some of the very best in world football in terms of developing youngsters. As part of the announcement, officials released a video showing a virtual concept design from Rafael Vinoly Architects detailing an in-depth tour of what the facility will be like once it is completed. The club stated that the City Football Academy will be ready for players to move in the 2014/15 pre-season.

The development is a mere 600 yards away from the team's current home at the Etihad Stadium and will be connected by a public walkway. This route runs straight from the ground to the newly constructed 7,000-seater stadium that will be used for youth matches. Officials have stated that all of this work will form part of the Etihad Campus and will not only provide a massive boost for the team but also for the community around the area as it will encourage youngsters to get into football.

BAM Construction was selected as the main contractor for the job by the club in August and officials have stated that work will begin in the coming weeks. The development is designed to help City bring through the next generation of young players that are ready to compete in the Premier League and help the Manchester side build on their title that they secured on the final day of the 2011/12 season.

Ferran Soriano, chief executive of the newly crowned champions spoke of his delight that the training complex can now get underway, stating: "Today is an extremely important day for the future of Manchester City Football Club."

The champions have got off to a good start in the new campaign collecting seven points from their first three points, including wins over Queen's Park Rangers and Southampton as well as a 2-2 draw away at Liverpool. The club has also been pitted against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax in their Champions League group.
