The owner of two dogs which attacked a woman has been told he can keep the pets – but must ensure he has adequate security fencing and secure metal gates at his property.
According to the Sentinel, Christopher Czeman's Staffordshire bull terrier and Rottweiler attacked a woman and her dog and, in a separate incident, attacked a Yorkshire terrier, which later died from the injuries.
At North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court, Mr Czeman pleaded guilty to two charges of being in charge of dogs which were dangerously out of control.
He was told he would be allowed to keep his dogs as long as he kept to certain conditions.
The newspaper reported Daniel Smith, chairman of the bench, as telling Mr Czeman: "We are not making a destruction order on this occasion, however we are making an order that you keep these dogs under proper control.
"While in the garden they must be tethered at all times and the garden must have adequate fencing and a secure gate."
In November, walking charity the Ramblers said that legislation needed to be re-examined following a bull attack on a couple out walking in Nottinghamshire.
