A particular stretch of the A18 has had its safety measures and lack of crash barriers criticised by a Grimsby man, after his son died in a road traffic accident.

Nigel Nurse explained that the ten-mile stretch of the A18 Barton Street that runs from Laceby roundabout to the A16 at Ludborough is 25 times more dangerous than the average British motorway.

His son Adam was travelling at 50mph when he lost control of his Vauxhall Astra in September 2008, leading him to collide with a tree in heavy rain.

"The road is dangerous - not the drivers. My son was going at a reasonable speed and there were no crash barriers," Mr Nurse told the Grimsby Telegraph.

It was recently predicted by the RAC that there would be four million extra vehicles on UK roads in the next 25 years, leading to questions to be raised over the government's decision to slash infrastructure spending.
