Plymouth bollards branded 'a waste of money'

Plymouth bollards branded 'a waste of money'
Granite security bollards have been slammed by Plymouth business owners who have branded them a "waste of money".

The barriers, along with planters and trees, are being installed in a regeneration project by the council to improve the city's west end. Plymouth's authority plans to spend an additional £50,000 to spruce up the area.

However, businesses in the Independent Quarter have condemned the proposals saying that the money would be better used reducing rents or providing free parking. The area houses the city's market along with 200 stalls which traders have used for generations.

John Dollery, owner of Computer Base, told the Plymouth Herald: "The road scheme is useless. It has not increased footfall at all, and these 'improvements' will not help. There has been a gradual dive in trade ever since the shopping mall opened and there's no light at the end of the tunnel."
