Background
Jurial Construction Ltd were redeveloping a site at Mayberry Garden Centre and Eastbrook Farm Developments in Portslade. The project involved transforming the land into a modern, purpose built car showroom and service centre together with an extension to the existing garden centre on its southern and western sides. The mixed commercial and public setting required a fencing strategy that could deliver strong security, effective noise control, and an appearance that complemented both residential boundaries and customer facing areas.
Challenge
The redevelopment demanded fencing solutions that could simultaneously deliver security, acoustic performance, and aesthetic sensitivity:
- With the site sitting alongside residential gardens and homes, an acoustic barrier was needed to limit noise and soften visual intrusion, ensuring the redevelopment remained considerate to neighbouring properties.
- The new car showroom needed a secure boundary with controlled access points.
- The client also required robust protection and screening for a bin storage compound.
- Every fencing type had to integrate with existing structures and ground conditions, and needed to be durable to support long term performance.
Challenge
Reflective Acoustic Barriers for Noise Management
To protect nearby homes from noise generated by the new commercial operations, we supplied a 50m long 2.1m high Jakoustic® Reflective acoustic barrier above the existing wall.
The acoustic barriers were chosen for the residential boundary to manage noise and provide a more private and secure edge to the site. In addition, its solid construction increases privacy, and the flat face creates a naturally anti climb profile that improves security.
EuroGuard® Combi A1 for Security and Privacy
To secure another side of the perimeter of the new showroom, Jurial Construction selected our EuroGuard® Combi A1. This system combines welded steel V mesh fencing with closely spaced vertical timber slats. Our EuroGuard® Combi A1 brings together the strength of steel with the aesthetic qualities of timber to create an attractive, secure boundary that provides concealment; ideal for high value or sensitive assets.The installation consisted of 80m of EuroGuard®Combi A1 fencing, at 3.1m high with posts following the line of the perimeter. A 67m run was also positioned 2m from the footpath.
A single leaf gate was fitted with an internal emergency push lever and external key entry for safety and security from all sides.
This system was chosen for the site as it provides anti climb security through its flat facing surface and absence of footholds, while the panel to post fixings offer protection against vandalism.
Mesh Fencing for the Bin Storage Area
The bin storage compound required a secure enclosure that allowed visibility and ventilation while blending with the wider site.
Our EuroGuard® Regular and EuroGuard® Combi fencing was used to create a 12m by 6m enclosure with a double leaf gate opening inward, all powder coated green. All posts were baseplated and bolted to the existing concrete and were fitted with spurs to allow the future possibility of extending the Combi fencing. The V shaped profile of EuroGuard®Regular provide excellent rigidity, while the mesh layout makes the system naturally anti climb. This made it a practical choice for a service compound where reliability and visibility are both essential.
All the fencing installed is covered by our 25 year service life guarantee. Together, acoustic barriers, EuroGuard® Combi, and EuroGuard® Regular systems created a cohesive solution offering security, effective noise control, long lasting durability, and a visually unified finish suited to the Portslade redevelopment.
