Pedestrian guardrails could be among the improvements made to a busy road in Highbridge after a councillor warned that serious accidents could occur there in the near future.

Councillor Helen Groves is urging Somerset County Council to make improvements to Pepperall Road as pedestrians are left without anywhere to cross.

Furthermore, she points out that there are local schools close to the road – therefore making it a priority for officials, reports

Cllr Groves told the news provider that the current facilities are "inadequate and an accident waiting to happen".

"Both the current crossing points are blind to oncoming traffic in one direction of travel," she said.

"This is an extremely busy road which many children have to cross to make their way to school. Older people with decreased mobility have to cross the road to access the doctor's surgery."

Elsewhere, Kendal could see pedestrian guardrails as the South Lakeland District Council looks at spending £310,000 on road and street improvements in the area.
