Supermarket chain Morrisons must install sound proof fencing to block out the noise of delivery trucks as part of its approved plan to build a new warehouse in Bridgwater.
The proposal, which could create 650 jobs, was given the green light today (Wednesday March 9th) by Sedgemoor District Council, the BBC reports.
It is part of a redevelopment plan for the area that will see 2,000 new homes and 3,000 new jobs.
The warehouse, which will be built on the site of an old cellophane factory, will be used for the preparation of food, packing and storage.
As well as the acoustic fencing condition, heavy goods vehicles will not be allowed to park on residential streets.
Steve Leahy, the chairman of Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce, told the BBC that although the new warehouse comes at a time when another in the town is closing, it was still good news.
"But everything's positive - if we didn't have them there we'd be moaning and Morrisons coming to Bridgwater is brilliant," he said.
In January, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council said Tesco would be allowed to build a new store in Pembury, but must install sound proof fencing to limit noise.
