A Colchester play area is set to see security fencing go up as part of a renovation project to update its appearance.

The town's council has earmarked £12,500 to upgrade the facility in Magnolia Drive, Greenstead, and plans to have the project completed in time for Easter holidays, so that children from the estate can fully appreciate it during their fortnight away from school.

The money will be part-funded by Colchester Borough Homes and it is believed that the new playground is able to promote a community spirit within the Essex town.

A number of authorities have also taken steps to improve their play areas as councillors in regions such as Flintshire and Lisburn, Northern Ireland, by investing large amounts to improve the look of the sites.

Tina Dopson, councillor for communities and diversity, told the Daily Gazette: "These improvements are going to make an already fantastic play area even better. I hope many families enjoy the fresh air and our many play areas this Easter."
