New play area fencing looks to be needed at a nursery school in Lancashire after vandals broke in and destroyed equipment.

The Newtown Nursery School, situated in Colne, was expected to see a new play area open in the coming weeks following the installation of a new slide.

However, fencing has been kicked down and destroyed - much to the disappointment of both pupils and staff, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

Lyn Rider, headteacher at the nursery school, told the news provider that there is going to be a delay in the opening, adding that she cannot comprehend why people would act in such a way.

"We were hoping to open it up to the children before the end of term but that probably isn't going to happen now," she explained.

"It is very frustrating and very disappointing for us. I don’t know why people want to do this."

School fencing has also been unveiled in Peterlee following the opening of a new sixth form college.
