Parking barriers could be moved across Oxford as councillors near a vote that will see a new car park built across the city.

Despite 16 objections, officials are looking to create a new 50-space car park in Marston Road following recommendations from traffic officers, reports

The move will allow new student flats to be constructed on what is now St Clements' car park in an £8 million plan.

Josh Knight, a partner in fair trade store Indigo, St Clements, told the news provider that the car park will need to be closer to the old one for it to work.

"The replacement car park is miles away. People are going to be put off coming into the area. Businesses are already struggling," he explained.

In July, councillors in Northumberland voted to maintain parking barriers in a car park despite calls from the Labour Party to make parking free in Blyth and Ashington.
