A proposal that includes the installation of security fencing at a specialist school in Lakeland, Kendal, has been given the go ahead despite some concerns from local residents.
According to the Westmorland Gazette, officials from South Lakeland District Council have approved expansion plans for Whinfell School, which provides specialist care for children with autism.
School fencing and more car parking spaces will be developed.
The approval means the property will change classification from a residential property to a residential school.
However, some locals expressed concern over the development, citing excess noise, overspill parking and overdevelopment of the area as key issues.
But council members gave their backing to the application, albeit with some conditions.
Earlier this month the introduction of security bollards at a school in Hampshire was credited with easing traffic.
According to the Hampshire Chronicle, parents have said they feel the measures have made it much safer to cross the street.
