A new road safety campaign has been launched in Dorking, Surrey, to reduce the amount of accidents around the town.
The "twenty is plenty" initiative will help to lower speed limits on the roads around Dorking and hopes to cut down on drivers hitting traffic barriers and causing unsafe conditions for pedestrians as well as themselves.
A number of collisions and near-misses have occurred on Pixham Road and along Old London Road and residents want the speed limit dropped from 30mph to 20mph to ensure that drivers respect the area they are going through.
In 2010, there was a reported 1,850 people killed on the UK's roads adding to a total of 208,648 incidents altogether.
Rebecca McCheyne, district councillor for the area, told Get Surrey: "It's [Pixham Road] a rat-run, there's quite a few commuters who use it in the morning, and because there are traffic lights there's sometimes an unhealthy incentive to speed up."
