LPS 1175 Security Rated Fencing

LPS 1175 Security Rated Fencing is integral to any well-planned and effective perimeter security strategy as it provides the reassurance of tested and certified performance against a range of threats.

The LPS 1175 Certification was introduced by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) in the mid-1990s. The Loss Prevention Certification Board works closely with UK government security agencies, police services, risk consultants and architects to determine the standards for fire and security products and services and independently tests and certifies fencing systems to LPS 1175 security ratings. LPS 1175 security rated fencing is ideal for commercial properties with specific risks or a requirement for certified, high security. LPS 1175 Performance Classifications

LPS 1175 security ratings cover physical security products and services and comprises of a number of security classifications.

To achieve a certified LPS 1175 security rating, a fence or gate will be physically tested to a standard which stipulates the allowable toolset and minimum attack time at each classification level.

To pass, a fence or gate must be able to prevent a person, represented by an elliptical test block (measuring 400mm major axis by 225 mm minor axis and at least 300mm long) from breaching its fabric and structure.

To keep up with the latest security trends and attack methods, the LPCB often updates the standard; Issue 8 is the latest standard. Previously in Issue 7, security ratings ranged from SR1 to SR8. Issue 8 has redefined security ratings, replacing the old SR1 – SR8 classification with a more fluid approach including:

  • Threat level – Letter (A to H) corresponding with the tool kit used to evaluate the product’s intruder resistance and the number of attackers involved.
  • Delay – Numeric value (1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20) corresponding with the minimum delay (in minutes) provided by the product when placed in a locked condition.

Under Issue 8, specifiers can choose products based on the delay in response time and tool set independently, rather than a fixed combination of both. The latest certification provides 48 possible combinations of threat and delay, allowing specifiers to select the most appropriate solutions for specific situations. Products can be combined for a layered approach to create a higher rating for the application.
