Background
A leading utility service provider in Kent required a robust and practical solution to upgrade perimeter security and manage vehicular access at their hub. The existing boundary, made up of approximately 17 metres of ageing chainlink fencing, no longer offered the durability or security standards necessary for a working site that frequently hosts contractors, heavy equipment and vehicles.
The client, who operates across the South East and supports a range of essential utility infrastructure projects, needed improved boundary protection and better access control.
Removing the Existing Fence
To initiate the project, the existing chainlink fencing was removed by Jacksons Fencing, clearing the way for a new system that could better meet the site’s practical and visual requirements.

Solution
Working closely with the client, a tailored fencing and access solution was developed, combining strength, security and practicality with a clear reference to the client’s brand colours.
At the heart of the installation was our EuroGuard® Flatform fencing, which is our version of 656 or 868 mesh fencing. Although we don’t refer to it as 656 or 868 mesh, EuroGuard® Flatform is designed with the same principles in mind. It features the familiar twin-wire construction, combined with Jacksons’ trademark quality, longevity and enhanced security features. For this installation, they selected our Heavy specification, which follows the 868 style, featuring 8mm horizontal wires and 6mm vertical wires for increased strength and durability.
Wide Gate for Vehicle Access
A double leaf 868 mesh gate, measuring 2.1 metres in height and 9 metres in width, was also installed to allow wide vehicular access to the site. It was supplied with base-plated posts for direct installation onto the concrete bases, ensuring a secure and professional finish.
The gate was finished in a powder-coated blue, a likely choice reflecting the client’s brand colours, which added professional visual consistency. The gate featured 180-degree opening capabilities, adjustable, tamper-proof hinges, and was equipped with drop bolts and a slide latch. The latch was a lightweight option featuring an encapsulated slide latch, designed to prevent finger trapping, making it a safe and effective solution for light commercial or shared-access environments.
Alongside the gate, approximately 17 metres of 2.1 metre high 868 mesh fencing was installed. The posts were set in concrete, and the fence was stepped where required to accommodate the natural slope of the ground.
868 Mesh Fencing for Site Security
The EuroGuard® Flatform Heavy mesh fencing system was chosen for its balance of performance, durability and long-term value. The panels feature a flat profile and are constructed using heavy-gauge twin horizontal wires, adding resistance to cutting and deformation. The anti-climb design enhances security by making it difficult for intruders to scale, while the open mesh design allows for clear visibility both into and out of the site, an important consideration for security teams or CCTV coverage.
These characteristics make the system ideal for utility sites where perimeter protection must be strong, low-maintenance and long-lasting, and the fencing carries a 25-year service life guarantee.
The combination of the fencing and gate created a complete perimeter solution that serves both operational and aesthetic functions. The wide vehicular gate ensures smooth access for plant and delivery vehicles, while the fencing provides continuous protection around the site’s boundary. The powder-coated finish across both elements not only improves durability and corrosion resistance but also ensures a neat, consistent appearance appropriate for a professional utility environment.
Final Result
The installation was completed efficiently and in line with the site’s needs. The pre-cast concrete bases for the gateposts, provided by the client, allowed for minimal disruption during installation and ensured a precise fit. Stepping the fence across the sloped section ensured that the system retained its structural integrity while maintaining a consistent look.
The client now benefits from a perimeter solution that meets every requirement: security, accessibility, durability and site identity. The wide vehicular gate facilitates smooth entry and exit for machinery and staff, while the EuroGuard® Flatform fencing provides strong, long-term security.
Despite the sloping terrain, the fencing and gate were installed seamlessly. The system works effectively with the existing ground levels, resulting in a secure and visually consistent perimeter.
Powder coating the system in blue contributed to the visual identity of the site, reinforcing the client’s professionalism and consistency. Altogether, the project delivered improved access control, enhanced perimeter protection, and a finished installation that reflects the high standards expected across the utility sector.
By combining high-quality materials with careful planning, the new fencing and access system now stands as a low-maintenance, secure and visually smart asset for the site.
