Bickley Park School
Bickley Park School, an independent prep school for boys in South East London, is split across two sites with a mix of listed buildings and outstanding modern facilities, including heated indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, science centre, and Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). By implementing research aimed at motivating boys to achieve, the school provides specialist education and facilities at the school linked to boys’ preferred way of learning and interests. The aim of the school is to prepare boys not just for the working world, but for life, and provides nursery, pre-prep, and prep education for boys up to the age of 13.
With such a unique and well thought out outlook on education, it’s no wonder that the school’s roll increased by 15%, and consequently, more space was required. A new nursery was developed to extend the school and provide three additional classrooms as well as outdoor learning space. The ethos of the nursery is to provide ‘something a little different’ to help promote independence, resilience, and confidence.
The goal of the development was to create a light, airy, modern space, with strong eco-credentials. Delivered by TG Escapes, the nursery features a sedum roof to reduce rainwater run-off, sun pipes to increase natural daylight, and utilises solar panels and A+ rated appliances.
To create a space which caters to independent play and learning, our Anti-Trap Bow Top fencing was chosen for a safe boundary. Its metal railing design offers high visibility through the fence for supervision, while being RoSPA approved and complying with BS EN 1176 anti-trap clauses. The above should be an integral part of any specification or procurement process when purchasing fencing for nurseries or play areas as the design prevents children’s necks and limbs getting stuck within the fence. With its 25 year guarantee, the railings fits perfectly with the sustainability requirements of the new development.
The colour scheme of the nursery was designed to offer a calming environment with the absence of bright colours and plastic toys, instead, opting for a muted palette and natural resourcing. To fit with this theme, our fencing was polyester powder coated green, providing an earthy tone in a glossy, long-lasting finish to protect it from rust and corrosion.
EuroGuard® Rebound welded mesh sports fencing and gates were also installed to protect the school’s new Astro pitch. The main requirement here was for a durable and secure solution that would prevent unauthorised entry during out of school hours, as well as protect people, buildings, and equipment outside of the perimeter from stray footballs.
Samik Patel, Director of School Development at Bickley Park School, said: "I was very impressed by the level of service Jacksons provided from the start of the project to completion and handover. All of the departments that I dealt with were professional and courteous at all times. The installation team were excellent and worked alongside other contractors to ensure that the project was delivered on time and to a high standard."
2022 update: Bickley Park Eco Nursery was featured in Education Business magazine in September 2022 and we were delighted to see the recognition that this amazing eco-friendly nursey is achieving, and great to see that our fencing is still looking good and performing as expected 7 years later.
