Animal charity installs security fencing after 'heartless' double burglary

Animal charity installs security fencing after 'heartless' double burglary
An RSPCA Animal Centre has put up security fencing to prevent further crime after being hit by two burglaries in the space of a week.

Thieves broke into the centre, in Coventry, causing thousands of pounds of damage and leaving staff in shock, the Coventry Telegraph reports.

In the first raid, cash, dog leads and toys were taken, worth around £450. In the second, thieves vandalised the reception area, pet shop and collection box.

The Coundon Wedge Drive centre has erected security fencing, repaired windows and installed a new alarm system to prevent any more burglaries.

Thieves struck on March 23rd and March 30th.

Sue Hucks, the RSPCA's Coventry and District branch chair, told the newspaper: "How anyone can steal from a charity is beyond me – our centre is an independent branch of the RSPCA and is constantly struggling to raise funds to care for the unwanted, neglected and ill-treated animals of Coventry."

The charity has 169 branches around England and Wales.
