The danger of broken security fencing has been highlighted after a dog is believed to have run on to a frozen canal in Chester after getting through a gap in security fencing.

Christine Watson's dog Scooby died as a result and she is now warning other dog owners to be aware of the dangers of winter weather, the Chester Chronicle reports.

The male lowchen went for a run on December 17th and was missing for four days.

He was eventually found by the Watson family in the frozen canal.

"I used to let him out all the time, but he always came back to me very quickly, so we knew that something was wrong," Ms Watson told the newspaper.

"Scooby always kept away from ice but there was a gap in the fence around the canal and he must have wandered through."

Recently, two Rottweiler dogs had to be rescued from Rochdale Canal after escaping through broken security fencing.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800314784-ADNFCR
