Maintenance of security bollards achievable with increases in parking charges

Maintenance of security bollards achievable with increases in parking charges
Improved maintenance of security bollards will be achievable after Cambridgeshire County Council approved an increase in parking charges.

The £235,000 that will be generated by a hike in the cost of pay and display tariffs and residential parking permits would go towards upkeep of security bollards, replacement of ticket machines and towards the shop mobility scheme, reported Cambridge News.

The cost of these charges was met with criticism as in some cases people will be expected to pay up to 50 per cent more than they currently are.

The newspaper heard from sympathetic councillors that angry residents felt that the scheme was going beyond covering its own costs.

The leader of the council, Nick Clarke, admitted that the prices should have been put up incrementally. He promised that there would be regular reviews of this in the future.

The extra income will also go towards subsidising Cambridge's expensive park and ride, which currently costs about £1 million a year to run.

Security bollards in South Shields have been given a new lick of paint as the seaside town readies itself for the summer season.
