Landowners have been reminded of the importance of keeping metal railings in good condition.
Recently it was reported that thieves and vandals have been targeting cemeteries in Norwich, smashing children's graves and stealing family tributes, eveningnews24.co.uk reports.
At one of the sites, Earlham Cemetery, damage to a section of metal railings had left a gap which could have enabled thieves to gain access.
It is imperative that perimeter protection is maintained effectively so as to prevent unwanted access to premises and sites.
A spokesman for Norwich City Council said work was now being done to address the offences at the cemetery.
"To help address the problem we have asked wardens to step up patrols in the area. We understand there is also concern about damage to a section of railings at the cemetery which has left a gap," the spokesman said.
"We will be fixing a panel across the gap as a temporary measure ahead of installing a replacement section of railing."
Recently, a group of residents in Carmarthenshire said they were considering erecting permanent steel fencing to protect a chapel cemetery from development.
The steel fencing would ring off part of the old cemetery from the new cemetery, which, along with a number of graves of old preachers, would be maintained by the trust, the BBC reported.
