Security bollards could need replacing at a car park in Paisley after a shopper accidently reversed her car onto one.

The woman was thought to be reversing her £20,000 Volkswagen Scirocco out of a parking bay at Asda in Linwood Road before stepping on the wrong pedal.

Her car ploughed into the four-foot-high bollard during the incident, which took place last weekend, reports paisleydailyexpress.co.uk.

One witness told the news provider that he was with his family when the roar of an engine preceded a loud crash.

"When I turned round, I could see this green car sitting perched on one of the bollards in the car park," he explained.

"The woman who was driving the car got out and she looked like she was in shock. I have no idea how she managed to crash the car like that."

Bollards could also be required in Ireland after a council said it was considering introducing barriers to stop illegal parking in the town centre of Rathdrum.
