Local residents in Newbury are campaigning for the installation of play area fencing to be erected to improve safety at the site.

The concern centres around the toddler play area in Victoria Park following recent vandalism, leading to one mum setting up a Facebook group to help gather support.

Around 750 people are now members of the social networking group, and with hundreds more people petitioning in person, mother Alexandra Cook told newburytoday.co.uk that she expects to submit 1,000 names to the council.

Ms Cook told the news provider that play area fencing is required and that there is plenty of support for its introduction.

"There does seem to be quite a lot of people in agreement with us and I am happy with the response so far, it has been quite positive," she added.

Meanwhile, Newport residents welcomed new fencing at the Kidzone Playground following funding from housing developers.
