Roadworks and crash barriers are expected to cause congestion around Dalton and Barrow-in-Furness in the coming weeks.

Since Long Lane and Mill Brow were closed in Barrow-in-Furness on Monday (January 16th) motorists have faced long delays. The work is expected to last four weeks while Cumbria City Council carries out essential maintenance on the road and replaces a damaged crash barrier.

The council is also carrying out work in Dalto,n with buses travelling through the town being heavily affected by it, with running times 30 minutes later than scheduled.

A Stagecoach spokesman told the North West Evening Mail that people will have to expect delays but that there was "not much" it could do to ease the problem.

Roadworks have also been causing havoc on the Wirral after a hospital forecourt became gridlocked.

Gary Doherty, Arrowe Park Hospital's acting chief executive, said: "I am very sorry that this happened and would like to assure our staff, patients and visitors that plans are being developed as a matter of urgency."
