A driver in the Isle of Man has managed to escape relatively unharmed after crashing his car into a set of metal railings.

The "bizarre" incident happened when the motorist was attempting to drive off the promenade in Douglas colliding with the Church Road Marina barriers near to the Gaiety Theatre.

While the driver managed to walk away unscathed the railings were not so fortunate and were doubled over following the collision with the owner's Vauxhall.

A witness in nearby Rochester Court told the source: "The driver was helped out of the car and was talking to the people who helped so there were no injuries of note as far as I could tell."

Railings are becoming a formidable foe for drivers recently after a motorist crashed his Porsche Carrera into barriers in the affluent area of London's West End, two people were arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
